Will paracord shrink if it gets wet?
Yes! To avoid the heartache of items being drastically reduced in size or the appearance of an uneven braid, we recommend pre-shrinking all of the cord before braiding. Note: It is the inner filler cords that shrink, therefore, it is not necessary to pre-shrink when filler cord is removed.
How does one pre-shrink paracord?
Do not attempt to shrink cord on the spool. Cut to the desired length with the pre-shrink formula calculated beforehand (10% to 12% per strand). Soak the cord in hot water, making sure it is thoroughly saturated for 5 minutes. Wring out well and hang dry. If using a clothes dryer, tie the cord up well and place in a garment bag.
